Panglao Island…Wonder Gem of Bohol

Day 2 for Bohol Diaries was to explore the famous Panglao Island in Dauis, Bohol. We have already talked to Kuya Mercken, the one who owns a private boat. So we didn’t think much of it. We ate our breakfast at DBR Grill because we expect that there will be no food stalls at Balicasag Island. To start, we traveled half an hour to reach the place of Dolphin and Whale Watching. This is my third time to see dolphins but it still amazed me how they flip at the ocean. There are lots of dolphins here but it is so hard to reach them because once they here the sound of the boat they will hide. Unlike in Bais City where they would come to you and show you their tricks. After satisfying our eyes to the dolphins, we headed off to Balicasag Island.

Far capture of Balicasag Island

Hidden island in the heart of another big island, Balicasag offers you a lot of things to do. After reaching the rocky seashore, lots of food stalls will welcome you and lots of “bangkero” will offer you to be their guide for the snorkeling area. Small boats are lined to let you reach the snorkeling area. But you have to pay 250php each. And another 150php for the snorkeling gear. At first we hesitated to do it because Kuya Mercken didn’t tell us that we have to pay for that boat riding to do the snorkeling. Another thing that we didn’t understand is that you have to pay another 250php each if we want to see a turtle. They said that it was another spot where we can see turtles.

Though, it quite a bit expensive for me, I decided to go for it.Well, as a newbie in snorkeling I want to experience what was the feeling seeing those nemo’s and dory’s swim in front of your eyes.

Playing with them…hehehe

We didn’t push through to see the turtle watching area because it is too expensive so after getting tired snorkeling we decided to get back to shore and do some photo ops and tried to explore half of the Balicasag Island.

Unlimited photo ops along the rocky shore of Balicasag Island.

After the photo ops,we decided to tell kuya Mercken that we want already to go to Virgin Island. Few minutes away from Balicasag Island,we reached the Virgin Island.Truth to be told it is literally “virgin island ” because of you will see only a long stretch of white sand. There is only one cottage standing there which some food sellers uses to sell there goods only until 5pm. So if you want ti have the background of white sand beach this is the perfect place to make an “awra” for the best photo op!

Along its way to Virgin Island!

Some photo ops along its long stretch white sand beach of Virgin Island.

We didn’t take too much time to stay here because as you can see at the background dark clouds is getting near sending message that anytime heavy rain will come and also Kuya Mercken told us that its not easy to go back at Panglao while heavy rain is approaching so we decided to immediately dock in to our boat.

30 minutes after,we reached the Dimalaluan Beach resort while the sun is still up and dock off to the boat.

Being freshen up after exploring Balicasag, we strolled along the busy seashore of Dimalaluan Beach.

After strolling we decided to hang out again to our fave resto along Dimalaluan Beach the DRB to satisfy our hungry tummy.

All in all the experience I got in this travel was an easy go lucky experience. We travelled far, experienced snorkelling and meeting the underworld creatures and experiencing the culture of Boholaños.Surely I will go back here in Bohol to try again other activities and explore more hidden places Bohol has to offer!
