Sponsored by Gulf Bank and different merchandisers, lot of people from different ages and race came for the event. I heard that the event had 7000 participants in the record. They have 4 categories which are 5km,10km,21km and last is the 42km that I think those are for professional runners. In each category they will give a cash price and a medal for 1st,2nd and 3rd placer.

The race started at 8:15am along the Souq Sharq area.Once we heard the go-signal for the opening of the gate the excitement heated us up and at the same time very anxious thinking that how some of us will survive the 5km race.

As a first timer in marathon, it is not easy to do it at first because no preparation was done a week before but very lucky that I prepared my mind to get a goal to finish it in an hour or less. Running and in between walking is the best thing to do so that’s what I did. Been lucky that Im used to do a brisk walking so I didn’t feel tired while doing it.

This way to 5km….

After 58mins of running and brisk walking I arrived in the finish line all smiles and received the medal that they gave to me acknowledging that I’ve completed the 5Km race.

All smiles when I received my 5km medal!

All smiles because we completed the 5km run with no injury!

What I learned for this new experience was if you want to achieve your goals in life you have to challenge yourself and face all the obstacles along its way. And if you surpassed it until to the finish line you will achiebe your goal with flying colors. Plus, I’m still capable and fit enough to do the marathon. Surely, I will join again for future marathon events.
