Berlin & Beyond: 4 Days of Wandering Through History, Palaces, and Peaceful Parks

We recently spent a long weekend in Berlin—though it turned out to be more than just a city trip. Between spontaneous detours, peaceful palaces, and unexpected explorations, each day had its own rhythm. Here’s how it all unfolded.

Day 1: Arrival & Rest in Berlin
We touched down in Berlin late in the afternoon, slightly jet-lagged but excited. Instead of rushing out, we took it slow—settling into our friend’s home, catching up, and simply letting the day go. It was the perfect quiet start before days packed with adventure.

Day 2: A Royal Day Trip to Potsdam
Refreshed and ready, we headed out the next day to Potsdam, a charming city just outside Berlin. Our first stop: the New Palace, a stunning example of Prussian architecture. From there, we wandered through the vast Sanssouci Palace ( in English: without worries) and Park—elegant, green, and so peaceful you forget how close you are to the capital.

After a good walk, we found a nearby Asian restaurant and enjoyed a late lunch, a warm contrast to the morning’s palace grandeur.

Day 3: Towers, Gardens & Time Travel
Our third day started right in the heart of Berlin with a quick stop at the iconic Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall), followed by the Berlin Tower, which towers over Alexanderplatz. The sky was clear, and the tower’s gleaming needle looked especially striking.

Later, we took a trip out to Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World)—a surprisingly tranquil escape filled with themed gardens, from Japanese to Middle Eastern styles. It felt like traveling the world in a single afternoon.

On our way back, we passed by the famous World Clock in Alexanderplatz—a quirky and timeless Berlin meeting point.

Day 4: A Northern Getaway to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Looking for a change of pace, we ventured north to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a quieter region known for its natural landscapes and historic towns. It was a lovely contrast to the busyness of Berlin—peaceful, green, and grounding.

Day 5 (Sunday): Faith, Icons & Farewell
We began Sunday with a peaceful visit to a Catholic church, taking a moment to reflect and soak in the calm. Afterwards, we headed back into central Berlin to visit some of the city’s most iconic spots: the majestic Brandenburg Gate and bustling Alexanderplatz and Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe ( a mazelike Holocaust Memorial). Never forget also to visit Charlottenburg Palace, Reichstag and Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall).

It was the perfect way to wrap up our trip—with a blend of history, community, and one last look at Berlin’s vibrant rhythm.

💡 Money-Saver Tip
If you planned multiple visits in Potsdam, go for the Sanssouci+ ticket (€22)—it covers everything in a single day, including both palaces and more. Combine that with the Berlin TV Tower ticket (if you choose) and day‑pass entry to Gärten der Welt to estimate your total budget. You can also avail a discount card like Berlin Welcome Card.

Final Thoughts
Berlin gave us so much more than we expected—from royal gardens to modern architecture, hidden corners to historic moments. With every palace, park, and platz, the city showed a different side of itself. This wasn’t just a city break—it was a storybook of contrasts and calm.
